His previous refutation - where he spoke quite a bit more than he normally might - was rooted largely in the fact that he wanted something: to make a deal. And his own lack of clarity was preventing that. He did not course correct or refute the impression in the several exchanges before ... simply because he was curious to hear more of how he was perceived.

Well, even when I do meet someone truly to my tastes, they don't really last forever, anyway. Whether to old age, or bad luck . . . I end up right back where I started. I think I've spent more of my life searching for someone than being with those people ... given how long they last.
